Long Kwan is one of the youngest and most popular professional tuba players in Greater China. He is the first Yamaha Tuba Artist in the China region. Kwan is currently an Adjunct Lecturer at the Hong Kong Baptist University and a freelance tuba player at Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Opera Hong Kong and Macao Orchestra.

By receiving “The Basil & Muriel Hooper Scholarship” and “Kathleen & Allison Short Scholarship”, Long Kwan completed a Master of Music Studies, majoring in Tuba Performance, at Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Previously, he graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Music (Performance and Pedagogy). During his time in Sydney, he was under the tutelage of Steve Rossé, Principal Tuba with Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He also studied with Roger Bobo, Øystein Baadsvik, Sergio Carolino, Roland Szentpali, Perry Hoogendijk, Tim Buzbee, Josef Bazsinka and Wing-Tsan Lam.

Kwan has been Guest Principal Tuba of Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Sinfonia and Principal Tuba of Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, Eastern Sydney Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Conservatorium of Music Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony and Brass Ensemble. In addition, Kwan took part in the recording of the original soundtrack for the Hollywood movie “The Lego Movie”.

After returning to Hong Kong, Kwan had his China debut with Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. He also went on a China tour to Beijing, Baoding, Dezhou, Jinan, Xuzhou and Shanghai upon receiving an invitation from Ballarat Wind Orchestra (Australia) as Guest Principal Tuba.

Apart from the rich performing experiences, Kwan is an enthusiastic educator teaching in many primary and secondary schools. He is also a conductor for ensembles, symphonic bands and orchestras. Furthermore, Kwan has appeared as the juror in music competitions. Kwan is the Vice-Chairman of Hong Kong Tuba and Euphonium Association and founder of Hong Kong TubaMania Academy.

In 2014, he founded the first Hong Kong Tuba and Euphonium Festival – Hong Kong TubaMania Academy. This continuously attracts participants from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and other countries and regions. and it becomes an annual major tuba and euphonium event in Hong Kong. Kwan has been invited to give a masterclass at Shenzhen Arts School in 2015.
